Reflective Journal 12

In this unit, I learned a lot about methods and strategies for hospital business.  I explored strategy behind placement of healthcare facilities and why that is important.  I also learned a great deal about planning and committees as well.
The team activities were extremely interesting. I liked seeing how the other team thought in the game we played.  I also liked coming up with responses with the Exam.  I liked discussing with my group on the different approaches we would take.  For the question about the male with HIV, I agreed with my teammates in the need to ask him about his reservations behind telling his partner.
I will utilize this information in my nursing practice when I have opportunities for leadership, as well as if I am ever a part of a committee that discusses placement of hospitals/healthcare facilities, or some sort of administration role.  I think it is valuable because I will be able to have a better understanding and be able to contribute more effectively because of that.
I feel like it's important to understand these strategies because as nurses these sorts of things have an effect on us.  I think that as workers at the bedside, our input is important in regards to strategy.  Nurses see things that the hospital administrators or marketing team won't see and can provide unique input.

Reflective Journal Week 13

This week, I learned a lot about conflict resolution. I learned a lot about the collective bargaining and the process that is required. I realized that it can be a complex and difficult process, and not everybody is necessarily happy. Sometimes conflict can come at a cost that is deeper than we realize. I also learned a lot about working as a team.  The team activities taught me a lot this week. The collective bargaining assignment was initially frustrating to me, but after completing it, it was interesting to see my teammates thought process. I didn’t agree with all their points of view. I felt like some had given too short of a pay still, especially with families and need for insurance. Final Reflection

This semester, I learned a lot about leadership and feel much more comfortable going forward with my career in potential leadership positions.  As a new graduate a few months ago, I felt like I knew the basics - starting IVs, changing dressings, passing meds, and inserting a foley catheter.  At least, I felt like I was familiar with the processes, even if I wasn't perfect at the procedures.  This past semester with leadership and feeling more comfortable in my role as a nurse in the hospital has helped me feel more comfortable and able to think outside of just performing my skills.  It also has helped me understand more of the way things run and why things are the way they are in the hospital.  It helps me put my feet in the shoes of my employers more, but also helps me think about what I would do if I am ever in a leadership position. Reflective Journal Week 15

1.  What did you actually learned from the unit. I learned a great deal about the importance of protecting nurses.  I have thought a lot about being a nurse and the risks we take in our field.  I've learned that a lot of people expect violence as nurses and healthcare workers, but that is not part of the job description. It's really important that protections are put in place for healthcare workers.  Nurse leaders help make sure these are implemented and that they are protected, so it's important to make sure that they are aware.  2.
