Reflective Journal Week 15

1. What did you actually learned from the unit.
I learned a great deal about the importance of protecting nurses.  I have thought a lot about being a nurse and the risks we take in our field.  I've learned that a lot of people expect violence as nurses and healthcare workers, but that is not part of the job description. It's really important that protections are put in place for healthcare workers.  Nurse leaders help make sure these are implemented and that they are protected, so it's important to make sure that they are aware.
2. Discuss your feelings/experiences from the team activities? Did it change your opinion on the subject? If so, how? If not, why?
I agreed for the most part with my team on how we would handle the situation in the scenario.  I learned a lot from them about how they would handle the situation. I found it interesting that somebody suggested contacting the legal authorities to find out what they could or couldn't say to the patient.
3. How you will utilize the information learned in your nursing practice.
I will utilize this information by making sure I know the standards about what is and isn't acceptable and what to do in a situation that may be unacceptable.  I also want to help others to be protected and aware as well.
4. You personal feelings about the material covered.
Last year, I conducted a research experiment about nursing workplace violence.  It really opened my eyes that lots of nurses think that it's just part of their job.  I realized that it's really important to make sure we are aware about ways we can prevent escalation or putting ourselves in any dangerous sort of circumstance.
