Reflective Journal Week 13

This week, I learned a lot about conflict resolution. I learned a lot about the collective bargaining and the process that is required. I realized that it can be a complex and difficult process, and not everybody is necessarily happy. Sometimes conflict can come at a cost that is deeper than we realize. I also learned a lot about working as a team.

The team activities taught me a lot this week. The collective bargaining assignment was initially frustrating to me, but after completing it, it was interesting to see my teammates thought process. I didn’t agree with all their points of view. I felt like some had given too short of a pay still, especially with families and need for insurance. I enjoyed seeing why they felt the need for certain action.

In my nursing practice, I will utilize these skills by making an effort to be more assertive when it comes to conflict. I want to try to make a more conscious effort of saying “I” instead of attacking the other person with “you.” I also want to take time to understand my coworkers, as appropriate and as necessary. If I have a conflict, I want to be better appropriately addressing it.

To me personally, this makes me think a lot about how we don’t have to be best friends with people, but we can listen and attempt to resolve in one way or another. I also think about how I can be a passive aggressive person and super sarcastic but it can be detrimental. Usually it’s mostly in my house, but I even want to be better about not using that in my house so I don’t use it at work.
