Reflection Journal Week 3

1.  What did you actually learned from the unit. From this unit, I learned a lot about the hiring process and leadership within a unit.  It made me think about a lot of certain things.  One thing I thought about was the preparation of the interviewers before an interview.  As a person who has interviewed at multiple jobs, I haven't ever given tons of thought to the other end of people preparing to interview others.  I also thought about people whose skills I have admired while interviewing and what made an interview good/professional.  I often feel when interviewers take the interview confidently, professionally, and seriously, I feel it's much more of a privilege to work in that place.  When the interviewer is not prepared, it could hinder their ability to find the appropriate person for that job.  2. Discuss your feelings/experiences from the team activities? Did it change your opinion on the subject? If so, how? If not, why? The team act...

Reflective Journal Week 2

1. From this unit, I learned a lot about basic leadership.  I learned lots about different characteristics of leaders and what makes someone a good leader, as well as what doesn't make someone a good leader.  It was interesting to see and explore different tactics through watching Ender's Game and viewing the slides for class.  I thought the Leadership Characteristics assignment was interesting as well because it made me think about these certain roles in relation to nursing. 2. From the team activities, I mostly agreed with the certain people we established as leaders.  I felt like most of them were already considered leaders in unique senses.  Reading what other people had to say about Martin Luther King Jr. as a leader reminded me of the significance he made in history and why he made such a great leader.  It's impressive to look back upon the leaders of the past whom we remember today. 3. In my nursing practice, I will utilize this information by reme...

Nursing Role Activites

1.         Leadership requires personal mastery  – Nurses seek feedback on strengths and weaknesses and initiate continuous learning (Sherman, 2013).  https://www.emergingrnleader.com/the-nurse-leader-within/ 2.         Leadership is about values  – Nurses can commit to collaboration and a belief in the need for teamwork (Sherman, 2015).  https://www.emergingrnleader.com/nursing-leadership-core-values/ 3.         Leadership is about service  – Nurse involvement with mentoring new nurses and nursing students. They also help fellow nurses get their work done (Fahlberg, 2019) https://journals.lww.com/nursing/Fulltext/2016/10000/Servant_leadership__A_model_for_emerging_nurse.15.aspx 4.         Leadership is about people and relationships  – Nurses get to know other team members in the hospital and understand th...

Personality Test

My DISC personality test results showed that I was more of a Dominant personality.  Close behind that was conscientious.  Some of these surprised me just because I don't feel like I'm a dominant person.  I am pretty active and try to take initiative when appropriate.  I think that it also depends on the situation and circumstance.  If I understand the importance of something, I'm much more likely to take an initiative.  I didn't realize much about me being a straightforward person, but I think that I am a straightforward person.  Usually, if I notice something that isn't right or should be corrected, I'm not afraid to speak up. I think this affects my leadership style because it's more proactive leadership.  I also think that sometimes, a weakness to this dominant style can be not always listening to other people's ideas.  I definitely want to make sure that I keep an open mind to other people's ideas. I think as a leader, that it will help ...
