Reflection Journal Week 3

1. What did you actually learned from the unit.
From this unit, I learned a lot about the hiring process and leadership within a unit.  It made me think about a lot of certain things.  One thing I thought about was the preparation of the interviewers before an interview.  As a person who has interviewed at multiple jobs, I haven't ever given tons of thought to the other end of people preparing to interview others.  I also thought about people whose skills I have admired while interviewing and what made an interview good/professional.  I often feel when interviewers take the interview confidently, professionally, and seriously, I feel it's much more of a privilege to work in that place.  When the interviewer is not prepared, it could hinder their ability to find the appropriate person for that job.
2. Discuss your feelings/experiences from the team activities? Did it change your opinion on the subject? If so, how? If not, why?
The team activities were interesting to me.  I found that my team members and I were all very similar on view points.  We agreed on reasonings behind hiring one person over the other, and why we would do that.  It didn't change my opinion, but I still learned a great deal.
3. How you will utilize the information learned in your nursing practice.
This information will be very useful to me, especially if I am ever invited to participate in interviews, or if I am an interviewee.  In the future when I interview for jobs, I want to pay closer attention to these skills I've learned so that I can apply them as the person interviewing for the job.  I also want to apply them if I am ever in a leadership position to help find the best possible workers as possible. I think in general it will help me in leadership opportunities overall and how to be more prepared.
4. You personal feelings about the material covered.
The material covered was very interesting to me. I thought of an experience on a student nursing committee that I had during nursing school.  We had elections for who would be on the next state board, and multiple people got on stage and explained why they wanted to be on the committee.  As a member of the board, I listened to these people explain why they wanted to be on the board.  It felt a lot like an interview in some ways.  Watching people be silly and unprofessional gave me the impression that this person may not take things as seriously as I would hope.  Others, I could tell they were passionate about their purpose as a nurse and showed their individuality while still maintaining professionalism. I found these people to catch my attention the most.  I feel like in some ways, that may be the case in hiring.  While people can be themselves, it's still important to be professional, as well as be prepared.  I also think in the future that I want to try to be more prepared for encounters such as hiring people.  It's made me think a lot on how I can do that.
