Nursing Role Activites

1.       Leadership requires personal mastery – Nurses seek feedback on strengths and weaknesses and initiate continuous learning (Sherman, 2013).
2.       Leadership is about values – Nurses can commit to collaboration and a belief in the need for teamwork (Sherman, 2015).
3.       Leadership is about service – Nurse involvement with mentoring new nurses and nursing students. They also help fellow nurses get their work done (Fahlberg, 2019)
4.       Leadership is about people and relationships – Nurses get to know other team members in the hospital and understand their perspectives (Fahlberg, 2019).
5.       Leadership is contextual – Nurses understand important attributes that are crucial and may receive confirmation and recognition of important attributes for proper ethical care (Gustaffson & Stenberg, 2017).
6.       Leadership is about the management of meaning – Nurses can show comprehensive management that focuses primarily on the quality (Seitovira, 2017).
7.       Leadership is about balance – . Pushing for change, seeking innovation, leaving one's comfort zone, and implementing multiple improvement projects are good goals, while still having fun and not overworking oneself to burnout (Raso, 2015).
8.       Leadership is about continuous learning and improvement – Nurses can attend or participate in the National League of Nursing's experiential learning opportunities for different types of nurses across the nation (NLN, 2010).
9.       Leadership is about effective decision making – As members of a team, nurses can share accountability of their decision making and gain necessary skills and assessing situations correctly (AACN, n.d.)
10.   Leadership is a political process – Nurses must be familiar with the ability to speak the language of policy and the political process, having a say in health policy decision making (IM, 2011).
11.   Leadership is about modeling – Nurses can explore and apply different models of evidence based work environments and help health care quality improvement practices (IM, 2004).
12.   Leadership is about integrity - Developing a personal code of ethics and morals is important to nursing leadership (BOS Medical, 2016).
